8 Weeks Prior to the Move

  • Prepare an inventory of all your
household items, room by room. Separate these items into four categories and label accordingly: items to move, items for yard sale, items for charity and items to discard. Of the items to be moved, determine which will be handled by the movers and which you will handle yourself. This inventory is the basis in determining the most accurate estimate for your move.

Packing

Proper packing not only insures adequate protection for your household items, but also expedites the moving process. Use boxes that are strong, fairly uniform in size and shape and weight appropriate. Pack Largest and heaviest items in bottom of box first. The heavier the item, the smaller the box it should occupy. All boxes must be sealed both top and bottom with packing tape. Do not use masking tape. Buffer and separate fragile items with bubble wrap. Fill in empty spaces with lightly wadded packing paper to minimize movement during transit. Do not use newspaper for packing. The ink will rub off on your items.
